Dear Aurora Central High School Community,

I am deeply proud to share some exciting news about our school’s performance progress. Recently, the Colorado State Board of Education voted to finalize our appeal on our school’s performance framework rating. It is now official that for the first time in more than 15 years, Aurora Central High School has made enough improvement to earn a state performance rating of “Improvement” status. In previous years, our school received ratings of “Priority Improvement” or “Turnaround,” so this newly earned status represents a truly significant celebration for our entire school community.

I first want to thank and celebrate the hard work, commitment and perseverance of our students, staff and families. Each of you has played a vital role in helping us grow stronger, maintain high expectations and build a learning environment that supports every student. I would also like to take a moment to share how honored I am to serve alongside the Aurora Central staff. Our staff members are truly dedicated to our students and community. They work tirelessly and collaboratively to ensure that every student is engaged, learning and finding success at school.

This year, Aurora Central earned 48.2 points out of 100 on the state performance framework. While this is a significant step forward, we know we are capable of even more. Reaching 53 points would have moved us into the highest state rating of “Performance” status, which is now the next clear and ambitious goal ahead of us. We know that with your partnership and commitment, we can reach that goal together.

There is one additional piece of information that I would like to share about our appeal. Initially, our rating was decreased due to low participation on state assessments. We appealed and won our case this year. In future years, we ask for your support in ensuring that your students participate in taking state assessments. Participation is important because results help students, parents and teachers understand whether students have mastered the content they need to know by the end of the school year to be on track for college and career success. We ask for your help in preparing our students to do their very best on these upcoming assessments, which take place every school year, typically during the month of April.

As we celebrate this progress, we also remain focused on the work still ahead of us. We will continue strengthening instruction, supporting student growth and building meaningful family partnerships. Together, we can reach the next improvement milestone and create lasting success for all students.

Thank you for your continued support of Aurora Central High School. I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished—and even more excited about where we are headed.

Sincerely,

Kurtis Quig, Principal
